Courses and Home Design Software
After several years in the design industry, Jill saw a need for more “hands on” design ownership for people who were building and renovating. She developed both a six week classroom course and a twelve module online course aptly named DIY Designer. Here Jill teaches the basic principles of design, and during the sessions the participants would use their homes as their course projects. DIY Designer courses have been extremely popular with home owners and also with the building industry.
Jill saw a further need for visualization – something that would give people a “sneak preview” of their homes, and allow them to make decisions based on knowledge rather than make mistakes due to a lack of foresight. After contacting many of the same companies who had supported her courses, she decided to develop a home and interior design software program. This needed to use real products, colours and finishes. The software was launched as MyVirtualHome, and distributed Australia wide, and featured on both the Better Homes and Gardens television show and also on the front cover of their magazine. Jill uses MyVirtualHome in many of the concepts she creates for her clients.
Jill made the decision to return to full-time interior design in 2004 and has been working with her new and returning clients ever since. The majority of Jill’s business is by referral and repeat clientele.
